Hee, poor mermaid XD By the expression on her face, I can all too well imagine the kinds of things she's saying about the pirates...

I love it. XD

how do you get your sketch back into the computer without getting it all grainy? I like inking/sketching on paper, but when I scan it in it turns all weird...

Lol...If you can draw, that mean you're already is an artist, my friend! You don't have to wait for a next life, now sit down and drawing whatever inside your head (Cars, girls, dogs,...)
Doesn't matter if it's good or bad... The important thing in here that you were tried your best and the people will appreciate it.

I love how you captured the mermaids feelings about the pirates in the picture.
Douchebags, is what I think it look like she's thinking.

So yeah, fucking pirates! :la:

I'm not quite sure what you do between the last two steps, is it just overlay/contrast fiddling?

Wow, you need to improve you observation skills.

We got textures, highlights, lights, shadows and contrast.

Those are pretty obvious to me anyway.

yes I know that Mr. Rude but there's still a method to it, layer types to consider. this artist's lighting always seem to have a distinct look to it and I can always tell just from the effects + a few drawing style elements that it's their work. So understanding that method would be useful since I can never seem to pull off many contrast and lighting effects with my smaller-than-average knowledge and use of editing software.
if they're obvious to you how about you put up your own wip and tutorial? -_-

Whoa, you don't need to be so apprehensive. haha

From your comment it looked to me that you were a bit perplexed.

So, I only wanted to inform you what was going on. :)

I'm sorry if I seemed crass or audacious. D:

I usually just comment what I feel. :)

But I'm sure if you just practice more, you'll eventually be able to make ends meet.

Have a good day. ^_^

I feel like the shading makes the subject matter less clear - even if it does look beautiful. Seeing the original I didn't make out that she was a mermaid! Perhaps its just me, but I prefer the forth picture of these?
